What is a physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists have completed a 4 year university degree learning why and how the systems of the body get injured. A large proportion of the course is practical where students learn the techniques to restore normal function by assisting the natural healing properties of the body. Physiotherapy is regulated by the government such that unskilled and unqualified practitioners are unable to practice, so it is a profession that is highly valued and respected by the medical profession. All physiotherapists are therefore required to maintain a current registration to practice in Australia from AHPRA this is paid for and checked annually. In addition to this a physiotherapist must be professionally insured and complete 20 hours of education relevant to their practice each year. This ensures that our patients obtain the best treatment currently available.

Patients can attend the physiotherapist directly if they wish. A doctor's referral is only required if the bill is being paid for by the Department of Veteran's Affairs, Motor Vehicle Insurance, Worker's compensation insurance or Medicare.

What to expect on your first visit

Your first visit will involve a thorough assessment, a treatment trial and advice on when your next appointment is required. It is normal for 4-8 sessions to be required as we are utilising natural healing and you may need to perform gentle exercises to assist your recovery. Xrays/CT Scans/MRI/Ultrasound reports, a doctor's letter, sport/work shoes and any other material relevant to you injury should be brought to the first treatment. Clothing that is easy to move in is helpful.

Please arrive 10 minutes early to your first appointment so you have time to complete the relevant paper work.

Cost

Payment must be made on the day by cash EFTPOS or HICAPS. HICAPS enables you to claim your private rebate directly from your private health insurance, so that you only have to pay the gap.
